Saying goodbye
Saturday, April 21, 2007

The last day of our Group Study Exchange tour was spent at the Daegu Exposition Center, the site of Rotary District 3700’s annual conference.  Above with David is our new friend, Amy Kim.  She was our tour guide when we visited the city of Andong.  A phone call from our good friend and interpreter, Min, convinced her to come down to Daegu to say goodbye, so she met us at EXCO just as the conference was finishing up.  We had the opportunity to say goodbye and thanks to many people today.

The conference -- actually, the word “extravaganza” might apply -- was very well attended.   The headcount was somewhere around 1,500, from the 90 Rotary clubs in Daegu.  Dignitaries, including the Rotary District Governor, the mayor of Daegu, and a Rotary International representative from Japan, were announced as they entered the room, amidst flashing lights, loud recorded music, and huge jets of steam rising from the front of the stage.

Here is a short movie from the opening ceremony.   Enjoy!  And thanks for “joining us” on our trip.
